Personal profile - Mark ter Haar
I have been immersed in training and development for over twenty years. A graduate in International Relations, my skills and approach to people and business have benefited from fifteen years working at AchieveGlobal in sales, R&D, marketing and senior management positions.
Since becoming a freelance training consultant in 1997, I have designed and delivered a wide range of solutions for organisations, in the UK, Europe and worldwide, to improve sales, service, and organisational performance. These projects, the people and processes involved, have in turn enriched my capacity to design and deliver lasting results.
Based on my extensive experience working in other countries, together with my language skills, fluency in English & Dutch and comfortable working in French and German, I thrive on cultural diversity, and bring strong understanding and communications to cross-cultural projects. I work well with groups where English is a foreign language.
My ability to relate to people helps to establish a safe and dynamic learning environment, where people feel motivated to share their experiences, draw on their strengths, and use all the resources available to them for their personal development. My approach is guided by respect for people, and trust in the training process to deliver positive change.
I recognise that training represents a significant investment in time, money and effort. Outcomes for each person and for the organisation must be tangible and lasting. My personal experience in sales and business, together with a
wide exposure to different industries means that I can help people see the relevance of the training, for their jobs and beyond.

- 3i - delivering a curriculum of sales skills for their business managers
- AchieveGlobal - principal developer in the re-branding of all their training materials
- Alliance & Leicester - a principal trainer in the roll-out of the organisation’s Service Excellence
strategy
- Arthur Andersen - business development skills for their senior consultants (Russia)
- Cisco - working to strengthen the telephone selling skills of their European salespeople
- Hewlett Packard - training their salespeople in face-to-face, presentation, account development and negotiating skills (Europe-wide)
In addition to training delivery, I have a strong track record in training design and writing (European lead on PSS development), research (Customer Loyalty, Sales Leadership book, Customer Satisfaction Measurement System), and sales (#1 achiever at Learning International across Europe).
I have a strong belief, experienced across the range of my activities, in the power that organisations and individuals can derive from actively embracing the Customer Relationship Process in building effective long-term relationships.
